Lermoos lies on one of the old trade routes through Europe it has historically had much in common with its German neighbours to the north and was recently described as one of the most economically booming areas of western Austria. Lermoos is situated in a bowl with the slightly elevated position of the village giving spectacular views across to the Zugspitze, Gemanys highest mountain.
The village is located around three main streets along the main roads to Reutte, the Fern pass and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Much of the through traffic has however been diverted into a tunnel built underneath the ski mountain. Lermoos may be a relatively small village but it has a surprisingly wide range of hotel and other accommodation.
The village combines tradition with modern spirit and offers a wide range of activities, young and old feel at home in Lermoos and return every year. It is most popular for its skiing and snowboarding in the winter and is very popular resort in the Zugspitze Arena. The village is set in a beautiful location looking towards the Zugspitze and the Sonnenspitze.

The Hotel Edelweiss, the 'most beautiful flower of the Alps', is run by the Gerber family. The guests, feeling at home, is still their top priority. Surrounded by the Tyrolean Mountains and the Zugspitzarena amidst unspoiled nature, this comfortable 4 star hotel promises a holiday as you would want it to be.
The ambiance of the lovely furnished, wood-panelled lounge and dining room with a cosy fireplace are just two of the many rooms. Twice a week the Hotel Edelweiss also offers an entertainment program with music and dance.
The 140 rooms are very well furnished, very clean, they are also very spacious. All rooms are equipped with a TV, radio, safe, and a hairdryer. There is a dining room and bar. A rich breakfast buffet and dinner provide daily culinary delights.
The Wellness centre offers relaxation and healthy bathing in the indoor pool, sun terrace and jacuzzi. Guests can choose from a wide range of indoor sports, including a gym, table tennis, billiards and squash. Day 1: Depart Local Area
After boarding your luxury coach, we make your way down to Dover and your early morning ferry. After arriving in Calais, we continue our journey through France and Belgium with stops en-route, then crossing the border into Germany. Arriving in Bruhl at the Ramada Hotel, early evening, where we shall spend our first night with dinner, bed and breakfast.
Day 2: Arrive at Lermoos Austria
After breakfast, we depart for Austria. Traveling through Germany, with stops en-route. Arriving in Lermoos later in the afternoon. Here we will spend the next 5 nights with dinner, bed and buffet breakfast.
Day 3: Day at Leisure
After a long journey to Austria you have a free day to do whatever you want. Relax, use the facilities in the hotel or explore the town and surrounding area of Lermoos. Maybe take the local bus to Obermoos and the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn and get the cable car to the summit of the Zugspitz, Germany's highest mountain that straddles the border between both Germany and Austria. On the summit you will find a border post for both countries, there is also a cafe on the top. On a clear day it’s like being at the top of the world. Return to Obermoos by the cable car and back to the hotel by bus. (Cost approx €50)
Day 4: Oberammergau & Ettal
After a super buffet breakfast, we travel across the border into Bavaria and to the Ettal Abbey. This beautiful Abbey, nestled in the little village of Ettal in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, is an impressive Baroque structure. the elaborate dome of the Ettal Monastery with such ornate architecture dramatically rising out of the countryside, founded in 1330 by Holy Roman Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian for a group of knights and a community of Benedictine monks. This is the largest Benedictine monastery in Germany; approximately 55 monks live here. We then make our way to Oberammergau. Its location alone, in an Alpine valley beneath a sentinel-like peak, makes this small town a major attraction. Its main streets are lined with painted houses and in summer the village bursts with colour. Many of these lovely houses are occupied by families whose men are highly skilled in the art of wood carving, a craft that has flourished here since the early 12th century. You'll find many wood carvers at work in town, and shop windows are crammed with their creations. It is most well known for its once-adecade performance of the passion play in the Passion Play Theatre.
Day 5: Ambras Castle & Innsbruck
Departing after breakfast we head for Innsbruck, capital of the Tyrol and to Ambras Castle. (Entrance included) Nestled in the hills overlooking Innsbruck is the Ambras Castle. Known for its cultural and historical significance, this schloss is one of the most important sights in Innsbruck. From 1563 to 1595, the castle served as the residence of Archduke Ferdinand II. Visitors are able to enjoy a wide array of treasures held inside the castle, include two rooms in the lower part of the castle that feature arms and armor. Then into Innsbruck, the historical capital is full of old world charm. The Royal Palace of Empress Maria Theresa, the Golden Roof, Cathedral and lots more. Time for a little shopping and sightseeing, and then it's back to our hotel for dinner.
Day 6: Fussen & Hohenschwangau
Today takes us to the pretty little Bavarian town of Fussen at the foot of the mountains with the river Lech running through it. First we will visit the castle Hohenschwangau (admission included) which was the residence of Ludwig ll. Here he would watch his castle Nauschwanstein being built. Transport is available from coach park to castle at a small additional charge, for those who would rather not walk. After your castle experience, just a short journey back into Fussen. Here you will discover late-Gothic castles, baroque cathedrals and the oldest preserved fresco in Bavaria. The museum of St. Mang's abbey showcases Fussen's violin and lute making industry. Returning back to the Edelweiss to relax before dinner.
Day 7: Austria to Germany
After breakfast and when all cases have been loaded on to the coach we start our journey back to Germany. We travel back through Germany to our overnight hotel at the Ramada Hotel Bruhl for our last overnight stay with half board.
Day 8: Depart for Home
After an early breakfast and the cases have been loaded on the coach, we leave the Hotel and depart for Calais. There will be stops along the way for coffee and lunch. Arriving at Calais for our ferry crossing to Dover. Arriving back in our local area, mid to late evening.
