Lahnstein is situated among beautiful mountain ranges at the conluence of the Rhine and Lahn Rivers. It is the tranquil Lahn valley as well as the hustle and bustle of the busy Rhine that gives this town its unique character.
There are also numerous old and medieval buildings showing Lahnsteins great historic past. Lahnsteins towns fortifications 1324, St Johannis church 1130, Burg Lahneck 1245, old town hall 1540 just to name a few.
From the historic city of Koblenz, the river Rhine flows south in majestic sweeping bends through the most magical of river landscapes in Europe. This is a land of magical castles overlooking the river like a string of pearls and wonderful half-timbered villages snuggled along the vine clad banks and steep valley sides. Day 1: Depart Local Area
After boarding your luxury coach and cases have been loaded, we start our journey by heading down to Dover for our morning ferry to Calais. On arrival in Calais we drive through France, Belgium, with comfort stops en-route, then crossing the border into Germany. We arrive in Lahnstein early evening, where we will spend the next 3 nights on half board at the Weinlaube Hotel. Time to take cases to your rooms before dinner.
Day 2: Rhine Valley Tour
Departing after breakfast, we travel along the Rhine, passing many of its historic castle's. This is a favourite with everyone. We have a stop at the Loreley rock (weather permitting) where this legendary mystic nymph lived; beautiful views of the Rhine Valley can be seen from here. Travelling further up the beautiful Rhine with its characteristic castles and wine villages, to Rudesheim, where there are over 120 festively decorated chalets, representing 12 nations, selling all kinds of gifts from candles and jewellery to wood figures and festive foods, and there is an extensive music performance programme. Along with all this you have the little shops, there is also Siegfried's music museum, well worth a visit (entrance at own expense) or maybe the cable car that goes over the vineyards to the Neiderwald Monument high above the town. There are many restaurants and beer keller's for your comfort, most with live music. Later this afternoon we drive back down the Rhine to see the little Christmas market in the old town of St Goarhausen (if it's open), we continue back down the river to our hotel in Lahnstein.
Day 3: Bonn & Ahrweiler
Today we travel north along the Rheine to our first Christmas market of the day in the city of Bonn, the former capital of Germany. Bonn's Christmas fair conjures up a festive atmosphere especially the atmospherically illuminated facades around the Münsterplatz form festive scenery for the market booths. The enticing aromas of gingerbread and mulled wine fill the air. This afternoon we travel on to the Ahr Valley, situated in the northern Eiffel Range; to the beautiful medieval town of Ahrweiler. A town with lots of charm and character and is completely surrounded by a medieval wall. A medieval town with half-timbered houses, Narrow Streets, church, and many little shops all within its walls. Here you will find the Christmas market with its many cabins and stalls enticing you with its Christmas fair. Ahrweiler is classed as the capital of the red wine towns; the surrounding slopes are covered with vineyards, which produce the red and white wine. After a great day we return back to our hotel to rest before dinner.
Day 4: Depart for Home
After an early breakfast and the cases have been loaded on the coach, we say farewell to our hosts at the Weinlaube Hotel and depart for Calais. We will make stops along the way for coffee and lunch. Arriving at Calais for our ferry crossing to Dover. We will arrive home mid to late evening.
