Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Depart Local Area

Step aboard your luxury coach as you start your journey to Harrogate. There will be comfort stops on the way and lunch. Arriving at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, where you will spend the next four nights half board.

Day 2: Rail Journey & Creamery

Today, we take a ride on the Wensleydale Railway (could be steam or diesel) for a 40-minute ride from Leeming Bar Station, which is the hub of the railway. It's home to the engine shed where their locomotives and rolling stock are maintained and restored, then going on to Leyburn Station. This is run by hardworking volunteers. The station is a highlight on your Wensleydale Railway journey. Make sure you explore the station and pop into Arthur's Tearoom for a slice of homemade cake and a cuppa.

We continue our journey to Wensleydale Creamery. This was made famous by Wallace & Gromit. They are custodians of a 1000-year heritage, where skilled master cheesemakers handcraft artisan cheese using fresh, subtly sweet milk from local family farms. We will have a demonstration on how their cheese is made. There is also a viewing gallery where you can see what's going on.

There is a cafe and shop onsite. Return to the hotel.

Day 3: Newby Hall & Gardens

After breakfast we head for Ripon to visit the wonderful Newby Hall, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1690. There is a guided tour of the house which has some of Britain's finest interiors. It is home to a wonderful collection of Chippendale furniture and Gobelins tapestries. Take a tour around the house and be immersed in the local history of the site. There are 25 acres of award-winning gardens to explore. There is also a miniature railway and river boats which you can enjoy (at own expense). Newby Hall is a hidden treasure. Return to hotel.

Day 4: Day at Leisure

Today is a free day to explore or shop in Harrogate. Take a visit to the famous Betty's Tearoom, founded in 1919 by a Swiss confectioner. The Royal Pump Rooms Museum is also worth a visit, where you will be able to find out why Charles Dickens said that Harrogate is 'the queerest place with the strangest people in it, leading the oddest lives'. Or just shop or take in the views from the beautiful gardens.

Day 5: Depart for Home

After a leisurely breakfast, it's time to load those cases on to the coach again, say farewell to our host at the hotel and head for home with a comfort stop & lunch on the way. You should arrive back in your local area late afternoon.
