Winterthur is a city in the canton of Zurich in northern Switzerland. Located about 20 kilometres (12 miles) northeast of Zurich. The official language of Winterthur is German, but the main spoken language is the local dialect, Schweizerdeutsch. Winterthur is mentioned in documents as early as 1180. At that time, the Romans called this settlement Vitudurum. The compact rows of houses, the alleys and lanes, backyards and squares make for charming excursions. Winterthur railway station is the fourth busiest railway station in Switzerland and is 20 minutes away by train from Zurich. Winterthur inspires you with diversity: The old town with shops and cafes, right next to its industrial history in old factory halls, villas, parks and gardens, first-class museums, the Technorama as an interactive experience centre and the Casino Theatre round off the offer.
