Standing proudly on the north coast of Catalonia, the historic town of Tossa de Mar is a real treasure. The town offers panoramic views across the Mediterranean Sea and is famous for its sandy beaches, lighthouse and, of course, historic fortified medieval village. This typically Catalan town has bags of atmosphere, thanks to its old town. The Vila Vella, as it's known, is all cobbled streets and traditional houses - there's even an ancient castle. The surrounding countryside, meanwhile, is some of the prettiest in the Costa Brava, with mountains and valleys to explore, plus you've got not 1 but 2 big, sandy beaches to hop between. The town's main beach, Playa Gran, is a large horseshoe bay with golden sands that shelve into warm, blue waters. You've got all the amenities here, including water sports, loungers and umbrellas for rent. It's all topped off with some sterling castle views. And when hunger hits, you can take your pick from the bars and cafes on the prom.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1. Depart Local Area

Leaving your local area, the journey starts with your morning ferry DFDS from Dover to Calais. A meal voucher will be given to you for use on board for a main meal and drink. Making your way from Calais, you travel through France with comfort stops, to arrive at your overnight hotel, the Novotel Dijon Sud. Dinner will be a set menu, followed by a hot buffet breakfast the next morning. There is no lift, but ground-floor rooms are available.

Day 2. Dijon to Spain

After an early start, you continue your journey through France into Spain and on to Tossa de Mar and the Golden Bahia de Tossa Hotel, which will be your home for the next six nights. Dinner is a set menu with one glass of wine and water each evening.

Day 3. Day at Leisure

A free day to explore the pretty town of Tossa del Mar or just relax by the wonderful amenities in your hotel.

Day 4. Girona & Besalu

Today you will visit the nearby town of Girona. Girona is a city beside the River Onyar. It's known for its medieval architecture, walled Old Quarter (Barri Vell) and the Roman remains of the Forca Vella fortress. Landscaped gardens line the Passeig Arqueologic, a walkway following the Old Quarter's medieval walls, which include watchtowers with sweeping views. Time to explore the labyrinth of narrow medieval streets. Whether you are a history buff, shopper or foodie there is something for everyone in this picturesque place. This afternoon, you will explore the fairytale medieval town of Besalu by crossing the iconic 12th-century, stone Pont Vell bridge. Lose yourself in the narrow, cobbled streets of the Jewish Quarter and visit the underground Miqve, one of the best-preserved medieval ritual baths in Europe. Look upon its 10th-century Benedictine monastery of Monestir de Sant Pere and its impressive Romanesque architecture. Returning to your hotel to relax before dinner.

Day 5. Blanes & Lloret de Mar

Today you travel along the coast to the popular resort of Blanes, known as the gateway to the Costa Brava. Time to enjoy a stroll along the 4km of sandy beach, while looking at the crystal-clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Blanes still has an active fishing fleet. Its fish auction is the most important in the region. Between Sa Palomera and the harbour lies Blanes' characteristic old village. It is home to many fine shops, restaurants and tapas bars. When you venture away from the seafront boulevards, lined with restaurants and eateries, you'll find the sorts of places where the locals shop, eat and drink. Just a block away from the beach is a daily fresh fruit and vegetables market. From here continue to another popular resort, Lloret de Mar. Lloret de Mar is known for its beaches. The medieval hilltop Castle of Sant Joan, to the east, offers views over the area, while the central Iglesia de Sant Roma church provides examples of both Catalan Gothic and modernist architecture. On a cliff overlooking the sea, the Santa Clotilde Gardens were built in the style of the Italian Renaissance. Enjoy some free time before returning to the hotel.

Day 6. Day at Leisure

A free day to explore the pretty town of Tossa del Mar and its market day, or just relax by the pool in the hotel.

Day 7. St Feliu De Guixols Half Day

This morning we go to the seaside town of Sant Feliu de Guixols, a city located in the heart of the Costa Brava. It is an old fishing village which has preserved its historical heritage. The best example of this is the Benedictine monastery and the oldest part is the Romanesque Porta Ferrada. Discover the coastline with cliffs pierced by small coves, walk along the beach and let yourself be carried away by the charm of the natural spaces that surround it, such as the Gavarres mountains and the Ardenya massif. Time to return to the hotel where you can relax for the afternoon.

Day 8. Depart for France

After breakfast and cases have been loaded onto the coach, you say farewell to your hosts at the Golden Bahia de Tossa Hotel and head back into France for your overnight hotel at the Novotel Dijon Sud. There will be comfort stops on the way. Dinner is a set menu and a hot and cold breakfast.

Day 9. Return Home

After an early breakfast you make your way once again through France back to the port for our afternoon ferry to Dover. We will have comfort stops en-route to Calais. Arrival time back in your local area should be early to mid evening.
